:: IT’S HERE ::
The first instalment of my new Bold-Hearted interview series, that is. This will be a monthly interview series that explores the personal stories of triumph, limiting beliefs, shed identities and bold decisions of some incredibly inspiring peeps. I hope to bring you people from all corners of the wellness and creative industries including life coaches, nutritionists, naturopaths, bloggers, authors and designers in various forms. The intention is to provide an honest celebration of growth, expression and nourishment, inspired by the boldness that each of these pursuits requires. I'm excited to share this space and these bold-hearted heroines with you.
I can’t think of someone better to kick things off with than Meg O’Sullivan. When the idea for these interviews first formed in my mind I knew straight away that I had to ask Meg. This lady has undergone somewhat of a transformation over the past year and a half or so, the fruits of which you can find over at her beautiful blog, Adventuring Home. She is a shining example of the change you can experience in such a short time when you decide to align with your true purpose, and boy has she created some BIG things in the past year! Meg shares her own brand of magic with the readers of her blog and eBook Naked, her coaching clients, and now you too. Here are her secrets to a life lived boldly...
// The Big and Bountiful //
1. Share with us a short story of personal triumph (big or small) and what limiting beliefs you had to dismantle along the way.
My personal triumph is that of expression. I grew up keeping my feelings to myself, and being almost ashamed or embarrassed to talk about them. For me this lack of expression was born out of a belief that what I was feeling wasn’t “right” and that my words underpinned my entire worth.
Now I relish in expressing myself. It’s at the core of my belief system. It took some intense self-inquiry and self-love to get me past those deeply ingrained limiting beliefs. And expressing myself can still be a challenge at times, especially when I feel there is a heightened chance of embarrassment or rejection. But I always come back to trust in these moments. I trust that life leads to wonderful things when I follow how I feel and express myself. So if that means rejection or embarrassment at first, than so be it. But I know a whole lot more lies on the other side.
2. What does it mean for you to live boldly from a place of love?
To let love be your guide. The boldness I think is just a natural result of living from love. I’ve realised that risks don’t really seem like risks when you come from a place of trust. Each decision is just as risky as the last. So in that sense although your actions may seem bold, they don’t feel bold. They just feel like living and love.
[Fran: such a good response - hit the nail on the head!]
3. What makes your heart sing and lights you up?
Dancing. Deep, uninhibited conversations. Silence. Marvin Gaye. Yoga. Flight of the Conchords. High vibin’ food. Writing. Well, they are just a few.
4. What grinds your gears or leaves you less than lukewarm? (Everyone has something)
Funnily enough my car broke down this morning and I had to wait for over two hours for a tow truck. Afterwards I actually laughed with my Dad about how my cool, calm and collective-ness continues to surprise me everyday. I kinda still expected myself to get angry!
But, like you said, everyone has something. And although I hardly ever feel the hands of anger take over me anymore, mine is being lied to and having my trust broken by those around me. Not fun.
5. What identities have you shed recently?
Ummmm, adore this question!
I am a big lover of the idea around attachment and identities. And I think it’s easy to fall into a trap and believe some identities are healthier than others. I used to be a high-achiever and since shedding that I have become a yoga-loving-green-smoothie-drinking-blogger. But as of late, I have realised both attachments don’t serve me. One is not better than the other. The issue is not WHAT the identity is, but in the attachment itself. So at the moment I am stripping off my attachment to my yoga-loving-green-smoothie-drinking-blogging self. That doesn’t mean I’m handing over my yoga mat, blender and computer. I am working to not box myself into this. And not couple my self-worth with this identity.
Once again, adore this question! [Fran: and I love this answer!]
6. What has building your tribe over at Adventuring Home taught you about community?
That it is everything!
It is what we crave as human beings - to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. To be surrounded my like-minded people, who just get you. And that’s what my tribe is. A community of women (and some men) that just get me, and I seem to get them.
7. Vulnerability is somewhat of a speciality of yours… Do you have any rituals that help remind you to bare your soul and to get Naked when all you want to do is hide away?
Write. When I write everything pours out. I can’t hide anything from the pen and notepad. And once it’s out on the page, it seems silly to hide away any longer. To attempt to stuff it back within would be a waste. So yes, writing is my key to remaining vulnerable and open.
